General Information

The Sport Wales National Centre is located within Cardiff City Centre parkland. Access is gained most comfortably and efficiently either by public transport or by ‘Park and Ride’ or by using our own car park at the front of the building. Spaces are limited in this car park and is free on a ‘fist come, first served’ basis. There is also a large pay and display car park within walking distance of the Institute.

Travel to Cardiff

By Car

From London: Travel time is approximately 3 hours via the M4 Westbound.

From Birmingham: Travel time is approximately 2½ hours via the M5 Southbound and then the M4 Westbound.

From the West Country: Travel is via the M5 Northbound to the M4 westbound via the M49.

By Train

Regular intercity and high speed trains leave for Cardiff from all major cities in the UK.

Late night trains leave Cardiff for Bristol, Gloucester, Hereford and for stations to Swansea and Carmarthen. Please visit www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk or www.centraltrains.co.uk for the latest information.

 By Coach

 Regular express coaches leave for Cardiff from most major locations in the UK. Please visit www.nationalexpress.com for further information.

 Travel within Cardiff

 All mainline trains and long distance coaches arrive at Cardiff’s Central Train and Bus Station. There are several options for the short onward journey to the Institute.

 Bus

 From Cardiff Central Station bus numbers 25, 62 and 122 go to Talbot Street which is a two minute walk from the Institute.

 Taxi

 There is a large taxi rank within Cardiff Central Station. A taxi ride from Cardiff Central Station to the Institute takes 5 minutes and costs approximately £6.00

 Pedal Rickshaw

 Cardiff has a large fleet of pedal rickshaws which are free to visitors (a tip to the driver is usual!). Rickshaws may be found at Cardiff Central Station.

 On Foot

 The most popular means of reaching the Institute from Cardiff Central Station is on foot. The final part of the 15 minute stroll takes you along the banks of the River Taff through Bute Park and the grounds of Cardiff Castle.
