Sport Wales

Sport Wales is the national organisation responsible for developing and promoting sport and active lifestyles.

The organisation aims to be one of the main contributors to ‘Climbing Higher’, the Welsh Assembly Government’s strategy for sport and physical activity. It fully subscribes to the Assembly’s vision for a physically active and sporting nation namely:

    • Wales needs to be more physically active in order to be a healthier nation

    • Wales needs healthy citizens to deliver long term prosperity

    • Wales needs to maximise the synergy between sport, active recreation and the natural environment

    • Wales needs people to be more physically literate

    • Wales need more physically active communities

    • Wales needs systematic and sustainable success in the sports that matter most to us. Subsequently, the Council’s main focus is to increase the frequency of participation by persuading those who are currently sedentary to become more active and to encourage people, young and old, to develop a portfolio of activities through which to achieve healthy levels of activity. Broadly the priorities of the Council are:

 Active young people

 Active communities

 Developing people

 Developing places

 Developing performance and excellence
